A LESSON IN ECONOMICS...sorta

Some may say that this has nothing to do with homeschooling, but I disagree. This is a lesson in, "People will buy anything. Don't be a sucker." LOL I give you the next great business chair. Enjoy!

SITE OF THE DAY: HOBBIES AND POLICE GEAR

My brother in law is a police officer in the Metro Detroit area. I often wonder where they actually get the tactical gear to do their jobs well. Today I found my answer. I was browsing the Internet and found a site that has hobby related items like binoculars, night vision scopes, telescopes and flashlights. I got a little deeper into the site and found a Riflescope, laser sights and even radar guns!

Who knew that a lay person could buy these items?!

This is an interesting site for a lesson in what it takes to be an officer or even serve in the armed forces. It is a great place to explore to learn about various hobbies and find the best gear to suit specific needs for various jobs in our community. If nothing else it is fascinating to see the sheer number of items available.

Check it out and let me know your thoughts. I was fascinated.

HOMESCHOOL FREEBIE COMING SOON: ONLINE MUSEUM

The Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas, houses one of the nation’s most significant collections of American Western art. This museum struck me as interesting because The Stark Museum of Art provides lesson plans to help teachers combine the arts into their curriculum. These lessons will soon be available online and will be updated as new lessons become available.

The Stark Museum is located in Orange Texas and is closely related to the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation. Lutcher and Nelda spent their lives collecting American Western art and fostering the love of this art in others. The Stark Foundation was established as a non-profit corporation in 1961 by the two, to be operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. The mission now, for The Stark Foundation is to improve the quality of life in Southeast Texas by encouraging, promoting and assisting education, the arts, and health and human services.

The collections of Western Art, American Indian Art, Decorative Arts, and Rare Books and Manuscripts is bar none the most comprehensive in the nation. Their museum is a must see family vacation attraction for those exploring Texas.

Explore the site, wait for the lessons to appear and then go see the real thing. What a way to take a class.

Happy Homeschooling!

BE ON TV! ENTER THE DOCKERS VIDEO CONTEST!

I think we can all agree that for the most part, that our lives are pretty ordinary. In the grand scheme of life, we get only a few chances to participate in something that is above and beyond the norm of our hum drum day. It is for this reason that when an opportunity to do something fun and exciting comes along, I like to grab that chance by the horns and ride it until I see it through. That's what life is about; taking chances and living to tell the tale!

240x180

I have found just such a chance today. There is a new Dockers contest. They have opened an opportunity to the general public to submit an original commercial into their Dockers contest!

Whoever wins will get to see their ad during the Tonight Show on NBC! Yes, "THE" Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

This is a no-brainer. This is an opportunity worth grabbing because it's exciting and gives us a chance to get our creative juices flowing! John Melendez aired his commercial on Jay Leno and it was a hoot!

HOWEVER I really like the one titled, "Historically." Something tells me those "plonderhosen" pants were nothing like our beloved Dockers!

I can't wait to see more videos! This is going to be fun.

If you enter, please let me know and I'll link to your video so we can vote!

HAVE FUN!!
