MICHIGAN HOMESCHOOL PROM CRUISE!

Last Friday the Inaugural Michigan Homeschool Prom took place on the Elegant Detroit Princess Riverboat.

Kazz is 16 years old, considered a Junior, but is about to graduate from college with an Associate of Business Degree; so the standard "Senior" prom isn't something that would fly in the Homeschooling world. That is why this prom is a Freshman - Senior Prom. Homeschool Alumni under 21 can also attend as well as friends of homeschoolers.












There were teens in attendance from all over Michigan and Northern Ohio. Kazz and his friends are pictured above at the Detroit Renaissance Center. Kazz and his girlfriend, Beka, are to the right on the deck of the ship. The rest of the crew are pictured below in our yard. What a gorgeous bunch of unsocialized homeschoolers! LOL





Brian and I found out a while back that it is becoming more and more common for homeschooling teens to attend a Statewide Homeschool Prom. We decided that it would be a fun thing to plan a Michigan Homeschool Prom too, so that is exactly what we did. It went so well that we are now officially the Michigan Homeschool Prom sponsors. If you build it, they will come...and they did! :o)

The view from the boat was absolutely amazing. We passed under the Ambassador Bridge twice during the cruise portion of the evening. We began the cruise when it was daylight and it ended after the sun had set so we were all able to get a lot of opportunities for sunset photos. Brian and I took advantage of that.



Here are some highlights of the dancing that occurred that evening. All of this fun took place with clean modern music too...who would have thunk it? :o)

I can't get over how pretty the boat was and how smooth the ride was that evening. I had never been on a Paddle boat. I didn't really know what to expect, but it was a pleasant surprise to find out that I couldn't feel the boat moving at all while inside the ship.




When I looked outside I couldn't tell we were moving either. It wasn't until I walked outside that I could appreciate the movement as I enjoyed the evening, breeze. It was a night to remember, though it took me 2 days to recover. The toe right next to my left big toe was numb for those 2 days and I have vowed to wear comfortable shoes next year...and I'm going to stop chaperoning long enough to dance with my husband at least once also!

KAZZ'S HOMESCHOOL PROM!

Kazz and a hand full of his homeschool friends went to the Homeschool Prom together last night.

It was held at an elite golf club, catered and had a DJ that they thought was great.

After the Prom the kids were laughing and talking and just very positive about the evening. Apparently ALL 4 of them danced with the masses who attended. Even Marissa and Jake were switching dancing partners and having a great time.

I asked them how long it took for all the kids to get warmed up enough to actually get out there and dance to the music. They said, practically in unison...

"The first song came on and we all just went out and started dancing."

I said,

"Oh you 4 started the thing off right then."

They said,

"No, everybody there got up and danced."

I LOVE it! I remember that our high school prom was a dud. It took forever for people to get out there and dance. The couples stuck together and the cliques were all...cliquey.

Not our homeschooling crew! But you know, that's because they are so "unsocialized." tee hee

WHAT'S A MANGA?! DEATH NOTE AND IT'S COMING TO THEATERS FOR 2 NIGHTS ONLY...THIS MONTH!!

DeathNote is Kazz's favorite manga. A manga is a Japanese comic. He has read Death Note in its entirety, twice. Little did we know that it will come to theaters THIS MONTH for only TWO DAYS! Death Note will be shown May 20th and 21st in theaters across the United States. It was not made as an anime however. It is a real life movie using actors.

The premise of the manga, and subsequently the movie, is that every human who's name is written in "the Death Note" (notebook) will die.

"L" is one of the main characters. He tries to find "Kira" (alias "Light") in order to stop him from killing people. The twist is that "Kira" is only killing criminals.

So the question is...Who is doing justice and who is really evil?!

The crime rate is going down, the bad guys are dying and "L" is trying to stop this. Is he the good guy? Is "Light" the good guy?

And which one will be alive at the end of the movie?! Those are questions that will keep you guessing and talking even after the movie.

I have a question that is more pressing however,

"What kind of super power would you want if you were a super hero?"

Would you want to be able to kill by just writing a name? Would you want the ability to fly?

I want...invisibility!

What does that say about me?! hmmm...

Kazz wants to be able to change molecules so he can make things change into water, solid...anything at all!

This movie will have you asking these questions and more. It is playing in theaters nationwide. Is it playing near you?

WINTER COLLEGE GRADES 2008

Today Kazz received his Grades for the Winter College Courses he took.

Kazz: age 15

PowerPoint for Office Professionals = B

We're taking a vacation, hanging out and gellin' until he and Brian begin again in June. They have found something that they both enjoy doing together as father and son.

It's been funny to watch them go off for One class each semester that they choose to take together. Kazz like the company to one of his classes and Brian likes hanging out with his son. Brian got a A in the PowerPoint class...but who's counting! :-) He also got a promotion to Project Manager last week...so...I'm going out on a limb here to say that the grades my hubby gets won't matter to him as much as the grades Kazz gets. Experience is also a beautiful thing.

The next classes for the Summer semester for Kazz are... Mythology and the next step up Computer classes.

21 Credits down...42 to go!

ONE STOP SPORTS INFO

I may be stating the obvious here but this home is filled to the brim with testosterone. When a house has this many male dwellers, the topic of sports is something of a given. This is the season for baseball and hockey to be the talk of our home. It won't be long before we move on to who, where and when the latest nfl picks will be.

I have found a site that has made me extremely happy. It is full of some of the most informed and hard core sports fans you can find; a one stop epicenter for all things sports, if you will. My husband and sons can actually register with the website so that they are able to discuss sports with other like minded individuals.

Why am I happy about this? Not only will I get some peace and quiet while they are getting their daily dose of sports news, but by the time they are finished surfing their new website, they may just be able to talk about something other than sports. Say, maybe...chores? If you have a sporty guy or gal in your home, have them check it out. I think they'll like it...a lot!

BIKES TO CARS...

BICYCLE STORY CONTINUES...

A moment ago Kazz walked into our home with a fuming expression on his face.

"Mom. Did dad do anything with my bikes?"

I know he was half hoping I'd say,
"Yes dear you didn't put them away so he hid them." But that was not the case.

The bikes are gone. These are the bikes that he bought last year after finally saving enough money to get the great hoopty doo bike he really wanted. He went to the store to buy the $300 bike and the guy gave him two for money.

WELL! He couldn't pass up two Haro's for that price!

They're gone...right out of our shed. Goners!

God knows I'm afraid to buy the kid a car!
