How did the French and Indian War sow the seeds of discontent?

From 1750 - 1770 the English fought the French in what basically amounted to a border dispute in the New World. While both nations claimed that the risk was control of North America, the reality is that this was just a continuation of the conflict that existed between France and England for centuries. The war is called the French and Indian War because the Indians sided with the French. The English won but at great financial cost. The colonists maverick instincts and democratic spirit came face to face with England mercantilist policies designed to recoup these losses after the French and Indian War.
